All potential sources of income must be explored and developed, if the income is actually available to the individual. Examples of sources of income include the following:

• Social Security benefits (including SSI).

 Exception: Individuals requesting medical assistance-only do not have to apply for SSI benefits. However, encourage individuals to apply.

• VA benefits (including Aid and Attendance).

• Retirement benefits or pensions.

• Disability benefits or pensions.

• Unemployment or worker’s compensation.

• Contributions from any liable third party.

• Third-party medical coverage.
