Use the previous 6 months’ income to obtain an average monthly amount.
Exceptions:
• If income has been received for less than 6 months, use the lesser number of months.
• If the previous six-month period does not provide a good estimate, use a one-year average.
• If the individual is self-employed, a one-year average may be used.
• If the individual has failed to report significant earned income changes in the past 12 months, use an average based on the past 3 months. Significant changes include any of the following:
- change of employers,
- start or loss of a job, or
- change in hours or rate of pay.
