617 GRANT DETERMINATION SR 00-12, 10/00 (AAM-A) |
Individuals eligible for a grant must be determined eligible for ANB, APTD, or OAA financial assistance in one of the following: independent living, residential care facility, community residence, HCBC-ECI, HCBC-DD, or HCBC-ABD. Use the following steps to determine the amount of the grant.
1. Subtract net income from the appropriate standard of need (SON).
- The standard of need is based on the type of assistance requested, living arrangement, and the number of individuals in the assistance group. Refer to Part 601, Table A
2. If net income is less than the SON, the result is the monthly amount of the grant before rounding.
3. If the amount of the grant:
- ends in $.49 or less, round down to the nearest dollar, or
- ends in $.50 or more, round up to the nearest dollar.
The result is the actual monthly grant.
4. If the actual monthly grant is less than $2.00, no payment is made.
Exception: Supplemental payments for nursing facility residents with available income less than the personal needs allowance are not subject to the $2.00 minimum payment.
Example
1. An OAA applicant’s net monthly income is $312.75; the SON is $526.
2. $526 (SON) – $312.75 (net income) = $213.25 monthly grant before rounding.
Round the grant down; the monthly grant is $213.
