Asthma Action Plans
This page includes information about asthma action plans including what asthma action plans are and why asthma action plans are useful.
Program Information
Asthma Action Plans are a crucial part of managing asthma. They explain a patient’s medications, symptoms, triggers, and what to do in an emergency. They are also required by law for schools to administer emergency medication to students with asthma.
If you or your child has asthma, you should talk to your healthcare provider about completing an Asthma Action Plan.
These plans should be:
- Kept in a place that is easy to find;
- Shared with all those who care for the child, such as daycare workers, school nurses, teachers, babysitters, and family members; and,
- Reviewed with a healthcare provider once a year.
