303.05 How to Verify Residency (FAM)

SR 10-23 Dated 10/10

Previous Policy

___________________________________________________________

Verify the individual’s New Hampshire residence using any document that reasonably establishes an address. Individuals need not have a fixed living address as long as their New Hampshire residency can be verified.

Examples of Acceptable Proofs for NH Residency:

·         lease, rental agreement, or rent receipt;

·         electric, cable, heating fuel, or telephone bill;

·         property tax bill;

·         motor vehicle registration; or

·         third party statement (e.g., physician, school, etc.).

Note: Addresses such as post office boxes, rural route addresses, or general delivery addresses cannot establish New Hampshire residency.

For individuals or households that are considered homeless, take the following steps to document the residential address into New HEIGHTS:

·         Enter "homeless" as the residential address;

·         Enter the mailing address, using either the DO’s mailing address for the individual or the household mailing address if they have one; and

·         Enter the DO’s name into the "Care Of" field if the DO address was used.

The individual or household is responsible for retrieving their mail at the DO until the individual or household provides another mailing address.
