161 REDETERMINATION/RECERTIFICATION SR 02-24, 10/02 (FAM-A)

TANF financial and medical assistance is determined for a specific period of time called the eligibility period. At the end of the eligibility period, benefits continue to be issued automatically until action is taken to terminate assistance.

Redetermine eligibility for all individuals at regularly scheduled interval periods of at least every 6 months.

Exceptions: Schedule redeterminations for the following assistance groups every 12 months:

• medical assistance only, with or without child care, and no food stamps, and

• TANF cash assistance when the parent/caretaker relative is not included in the cash assistance group and no assistance group member receives child care or food stamps.

Review individuals more frequently when either of the following occurs:

• there is a change in case circumstances that affects other eligibility factors; or

• there is conflicting information regarding eligibility.

Review and prove all eligibility factors and criteria that are subject to change. Update eligibility and benefits as necessary. Assign the next redetermination by counting the correct number of months. If the case involves multiple programs of assistance, redetermination periods for all programs are aligned to coincide with the most frequent redetermination required by policy.
