161 REDETERMINATION/RECERTIFICATION SR 08-04, 04/08 (FAM-A)

*Financial Assistance To Needy Families financial and medical assistance is determined for a specific period of time called the eligibility period. At the end of the eligibility period, benefits continue to be issued automatically until action is taken to terminate assistance.

Redetermine/recertify eligibility for all individuals at regularly scheduled intervals. The longest eligibility period is 12 months.

Review individuals more frequently than indicated below when either of the following occurs:

. there is a change in case circumstances that affects other eligibility factors; or

. there is conflicting information regarding eligibility.

Review and prove all eligibility factors and criteria that are subject to change. Update eligibility and benefits as necessary. If the case involves multiple programs of assistance, redetermination periods for all programs are aligned to coincide with the most frequent redetermination required by policy (see Adult Assistance Manual PART 155, REDETERMINATION, and Food Stamp Manual Section 133.09, Certification Periods).

12-Month Redetermination/Recertification

The following Financial Assistance To Needy Families cases may be redetermined via the mail-in redetermination/recertification process at 12-month intervals:

. *AGs receiving financial assistance and/or medical assistance, including CSD, where no member receives Food Stamps or child care assistance and:

- a parent is not included in the AG; or

- a caretaker relative is a member of the AG.

. AGs receiving medical assistance, where no member receives food stamps or child care assistance.

6-Month Redetermination/Recertification

. Child care assistance only cases are redetermined via the face-to-face redetermination/recertification process at 6-month intervals (see PART 905, LENGTH OF ELIGIBILITY).

. Financial Assistance To Needy Families financial* assistance and/or medical assistance with food stamps, and with or without child care assistance, are redetermined via the mail-in redetermination/recertification process for the first 6-month redetermination/recertification; the next redetermination/recertification is conducted via the face-to-face redetermination process.

Continue this alternating method of redetermination/recertification as long as the assistance group remains eligible for benefits.

In and Out Medical Assistance and Refugee Cash and/or Medical Assistance (RCA/RMA)

. In and Out Medical Assistance, including Qualified Pregnant Women are redetermined via the mail-in redetermination process at the end of the estimated end-date of eligibility.

. Refugee cash and/or medical assistance cases are redetermined via the face-to-face redetermination process at the end of the estimated end-date of eligibility.
