161 REDETERMINATION/RECERTIFICATION SR 98-51, 12/98 (FAM-A)

TANF financial and medical assistance is determined for a specific period of time —called the eligibility period. At the end of the eligibility period, benefits continue to be issued automatically until action is taken to close the case.

Redetermine eligibility for all individuals at regularly scheduled interval periods of at least every 6 months.

Exception: If the case involves multiple programs of assistance, redetermination periods for all programs are aligned to coincide with the most frequent redetermination required by policy.

Exceptions: Schedule:

• Joint TANF financial assistance and food stamp cases with earned income every 3 months;

• TANF medical assistance and food stamp cases with earned income every 4 months; and

• TANF related medical assistance only, with or without child care and no food stamps, every 12 months.

Review individuals more frequently when either of the following occurs:

• There is a change in case circumstances that affects other eligibility factors; or

• There is conflicting information regarding eligibility.

Review and prove all eligibility factors and criteria which are subject to change. Update eligibility and benefits, as necessary. Assign the next redetermination by counting the correct number of months.
