203.03 FAP (Family Assistance Program) SR 97-09, 03/97 (FAM-A)

The FAP Program provides financial assistance for families with dependent children who receive assistance and who are cared for by a parent or relative who is unable to work due to a physical or mental disability, or are cared for by a relative other than a parent who is not receiving assistance. This program has no work component.

Individuals age 60 or older or individuals who receive at least 1 of the following types of payments/benefits are permanently exempt from participation in the NHEP Program and are referred to the Family Assistance Program:

• supplemental security income (SSI);

• social security disability;

• veterans disability benefits of 80% or more;

• OAA, ANB, or APTD financial and/or medical assistance; or;

• individuals who NHEP refers to FAP after 1 year of participation in NHEP when NHEP determines that the individual has a long term inability to work.

VA disability benefits of varying percentages may be awarded to the veteran, or to a surviving disabled spouse or child(ren).
