217.01 When Separate Medical Assistance Groups Are Required SR 97-09, 03/97 (FAM-A)

Establish a separate medical assistance group for any of the following situations:

• When the parent/caretaker relative of SSI children is eligible to receive TANF or ANB financial assistance, place the SSI children in a separate medical assistance group.

Exception: If the SSI children are ineligible for TANF medical assistance, the parent/caretaker relative is ineligible for TANF financial assistance.

• When the entire family of an SSI parent is eligible to receive TANF or ANB financial assistance, place the SSI parent in a separate medical assistance group.

• When not all children in a family are eligible for TANF financial assistance, place the ineligible children in a separate medical assistance group.

• When a child age 16 or 17, who is not a full-time student, fails to comply with NHEP requirements, place the child in a separate medical assistance group.

Exception: If the child described above is the only child in the TANF financial assistance group, terminate financial assistance and leave the parent and child in one medical assistance case. A separate medical assistance group is not necessary when the parent/caretaker relative and the child are eligible for medical assistance in the same group.

• When the family of an unenumerated newborn receives TANF financial assistance, place the newborn in a separate medical assistance group.

• When the nonparent/caretaker relative or any assistance group member other than a parent/ caretaker relative is disqualified for failure to comply with an TANF financial assistance program requirement, place the disqualified individual in a separate medical assistance group.

• When a child in the TANF financial assistance group is on strike the last day of any month and there are other children in the financial assistance group, place the child on strike in a separate medical assistance group.
