STANDARD OF NEED
The Standard of Need (SON) is equal to the Basic Maintenance Needs Allowance (BMNA) plus $310, the weighted average of the maximum shelter payment allowances, as shown below:

For household sizes over 12, calculate the BMNA by adding $67 for each additional person to the basic maintenance payment allowance (See FAM Part 601, Table B) and divide the result by 0.1351. To then obtain the SON, add $310, the weighted average of the maximum shelter payment allowances.
