617 IN AND OUT MEDICAL ASSISTANCE SR 94-04, 04/94 (FAM-A)

Medical assistance is available on an In and Out basis to an assistance group who meets all eligibility requirements for medical assistance except their countable income exceeds the medically needy income limits. In and Out medical assistance is helpful to individuals whose income is insufficient to meet incurred medical costs or unpaid prior medical debts.

Retroactive medical assistance, see Section 109.09, Application for Retroactive Medical Assistance, is available for the 3 months prior to the date of application on an In and Out basis, with a one-month spenddown for each of the retroactive months.

In and Out medical assistance is available with either a:

• one-month spenddown, or

• six-month spenddown.

The individual must choose either the one- or six-month spenddown after:

• all eligibility criteria have been met, and

• all verifications of medical expenses have been submitted to the District Office.

Do not allow the individual to switch between a one- and six- month spenddown unless the individual reapplies for assistance.
