808.27 Hourly Participation Requirements SR 98-46, 11/98 (FAM-A)

Mandatory and voluntary NHEP participants must participate in NHEP activities for at least the minimum number of hours described in the following table to a maximum of 40 hours per week unless they are exempt. See Exceptions below.

One-Parent Families

Two-Parent Families not receiving DHHS child care assistance.

Two-Parent Families receiving DHHS child care assistance and no disabled person in home

25 Hours Per Week

35 Hours Per Week

55 Hours Per Week

When appropriate, the hours may be met through a single activity or a combination of activities. Community activities or activities mandated by another agency that promote self-sufficiency, employability or the health of the family count toward the participation hours.

The hours of participation, between the minimum and maximum, should be based on what is necessary for the participant to achieve employment goals and self-sufficiency and not on the minimum hours set by federal law.

Exceptions:

*

• Participants in barrier resolution are not required to meet the minimum number of hours.

• The 2nd parent in a two parent household is only required to participate if the family receives DHHS child care assistance and no adult is disabled or caring for a severely disabled child.

Exception: This exemption does not apply if the second parent is under age 21 and does not have a high school diploma or its equivalent.

• For individuals participating in OJT, the required hours may exceed 40 hours under certain conditions. See Section 808.37, Participation Requirements for 2 Parent Families.

• Parents who are under age 21 are required to participate in educational activities if they do not have a high school diploma or its equivalent.
