925 TRAINING OR EDUCATION PREPARATORY TO EMPLOYMENT SR 05-33, 07/05 (FAM-A)

Allow payment for child care services to parents who are participating and making satisfactory progress in a training or education program, including Internet courses, preparatory to employment which meets all of the following criteria:

• the program leads to a degree or certificate in an area of specialization such as an associates degree in Computer Technology or an LPN certificate;

• the program has an immediate practical application toward a degree, certificate, employment, or employment advancement; and

• for non-NHEP participants:

- the program does not result in a post-secondary degree or certificate at the bachelor level or higher; and

- the time period for completion of the program does not exceed 2 years of continuous full- time study.

Allow payment for child care services approved on the EP for:

• NHEP recipients participating in a single course(s), not to exceed 2 courses per State fiscal year.

• NHEP financial assistance recipients participating in a program which results in a bachelors degree for a period which does not exceed 2 years of full-time continuous study.

• NHEP financial assistance recipients attending a program of study less than full-time, up to 1½ times the period it customarily takes to complete the program when attendance is full time, not to exceed 3 years of part time attendance.

• TANF financial assistance recipients participating in an Associate or Bachelors degree program not approved on an EP, or who do not have an EP, if the course of study is necessary to meet individual goals that are directly related to obtaining useful employment in a recognized occupation.

Exception: Do not authorize child care services for participation in pre-requisite courses for post-secondary education or training programs.
