943.01 Cost Share and Provider Co-Pay SR 10-12, 03/10 (FAM-A) |
The cost share is the amount the Department has determined families and children owe to their child care provider as their contribution towards the cost of child care. The *child’s cost share is based on a percentage of the family’s gross income, and the percentage used is based on the income Step level by which the family became eligible for a scholarship. This means the *cost share will be different for each family. The chart below lists the percentages by Step level used in the *cost share determination process:

*The total cost share a family pays will be different for each family even if the family size and income are the same, because the total cost share a family pays depends upon how many children in the family are eligible and receiving NH Child Care Scholarship. Families with two children in child care will pay double what a family of the same size with the same income and only one child in child care pays per week.
For all Steps: Families may be responsible for paying the difference when providers charge a rate that is higher than the NH Child Care Standard Rate. This is called the provider co-pay.
Example:
A family with two eligible children with an income of $600 will incur a per child cost share of $7.27 each per week (based on 5.25%). If the family has one eligible child, the family will pay $7.27 per week; if the family has two eligible children, the family will pay a total of $14.54 per week for both children ($7.27 per child).
