301.09 Medicaid-Only Residency: Individuals Placed Out-of-State (MAM) |
Previous Policy |
__________________________________________________________________
When a state places any individual in an out-of-state institution, continue Medicaid beyond 30 days. The individual keeps residency in the original state whether or not they intend to remain a New Hampshire resident. However, if the individual is competent and leaves the institution, then residency reverts to the state where they are physically located.
Example
A pregnant woman is placed in a Massachusetts institution for specialty care not available in New Hampshire. Her Medicaid-only benefits continue to be the responsibility of New Hampshire.
A state had not arranged a placement in an out-of-state institution when it:
. provides an individual with basic information about another state's Medicaid program or the availability of health care in another state; or
. assists a competent individual in locating an institution in another state.
