417.03 Requirements of the Resource Assessment (MAM)

Institutionalized individuals and their spouses are made aware of their right to a resource assessment by the staff of the medical facility-this notification is required by law.

An institutionalized individual or community spouse may request a resource assessment at the time of institutionalization or anytime up to and including the date of application for medical assistance.

If the assessment is not requested prior to application for medical assistance, the assessment must be done as part of the application process. Reconstruct the amount of resources that were available on the date of the first period of institutionalization.

Process the resource assessment within 45 days from the date the assessment was requested, provided all verifications are received within the time frame. Do not process the assessment if the documentation is not received within the 45-day time frame.
