219 PARENTS CARETAKER RELATIVE MEDICAL ASSISTANCE SR 14-28, 08/14 (MAM-A)

Parent/Caretaker Relative medical assistance (MA) is a Medicaid eligibility category that uses Modified Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI) in the eligibility determination process. To be eligible for Parent/Caretaker Relative MA, an individual must meet all the requirements below:

• be a caretaker relative or parent of a dependent child, defined as a child under age 18, or under age *19 and a full-time student in secondary school (or equivalent vocational or technical training);

• the dependent child must live with the parent or caretaker relative and must meet the FANF deprivation of care criteria; and

• the individual must have net income less than or equal to the income limit for this type of assistance as posted in PART 601, Table I, Parent/Caretaker Relatives Income Limits.

FANF Deprivation of Care Criteria

Deprivation is the loss of a parent’s ability to support or care for a child. The loss can be due to death, continued absence, unemployment of the primary wage earner, or physical or mental incapacity:

• for the deprivation of care criteria due to death, continued absence, or physical or mental incapacity, see the Family Assistance Manual PART 209, FANF DEPRIVATION; and

• for the deprivation of care criteria due to unemployment of the primary wage earner (PWE), see this manual, Section 219.09, Unemployed Parent (UP).
