medical assistance.

Non-MAGI-Related Medical Assistance

Use third-party (collateral) documentation to establish the accuracy of statements made by the individual requesting assistance.

If the individual refuses or fails to verify income, deny or terminate assistance for the entire assistance group.

MAGI-Related Medical Assistance

Income for MAGI-related medical assistance groups is verified through electronic data crossmatches based upon self-attestation and/or what the applicant or recipient has provided about income during the eligibility process. Proof of income is only required to maintain eligibility if there is a discrepancy between what the applicant/recipient reported and the electronic data crossmatch and/or for special categories of assistance, like UP, in which the MAGI applicant may need to provide more verification for a longer period of time, than the applicant provided during the application process and/or could be verified electronically.

Exception for both MAGI and non-MAGI categories of medical assistance: If a recipient is reporting a change in earned income during the period prior to a regularly scheduled redetermination, verification requirements are different. See:

• PART 145, CHANGES THAT INCREASE BENEFITS; or

• PART 147, CHANGES THAT DECREASE BENEFITS.
