In Honor Of National Adoption Month, Governor Sununu, DHHS And DCYF Officials Celebrate Adoptive Families On November 18th

Concord, NH – There were 265 New Hampshire children adopted during the last federal fiscal year (October 1, 2018 - September 30, 2019), the most children adopted during a federal fiscal year on record. In honor of adopted children and their forever families, the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Division for Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) celebrates National Adoption Month this November.

In recognition, Governor Chris Sununu, DHHS and DCYF will host an event for adopted children and their families at an event on November 18 at 2 p.m., at Krazy Kids Play and Party Center, 60 Sheep Davis Road in Pembroke, NH.

“Adoption is a wonderful gift that allows for so many children to find loving and caring homes,” said Governor Chris Sununu. “While a record number of New Hampshire children were able to find a forever home this last year, there are unfortunately many still waiting, and it’s important we keep this positive momentum rolling forward in 2020.”

“Adoption is a meaningful, life-changing event for children and parents that provides the love and security every child deserves,” said DHHS Commissioner Jeffrey A. Meyers. “Adoption is a lifelong commitment, and we are grateful to the record number of families across New Hampshire who have opened their homes and their hearts to New Hampshire children through adoption.”

Governor Sununu will offer welcoming remarks and will deliver a proclamation on the importance of finding permanency. Also scheduled to speak are DHHS Commissioner Meyers, DCYF Director Joseph E. Ribsam, and an adopted youth.

Each November, National Adoption Month brings awareness to the needs of children and youth who need permanent homes and families. This year’s theme, “Youth Voices: Why Families Matter,” focuses the perspective on older youth, highlighting the importance of family and the need for stability as they move toward adulthood.
