NH DHHS Advises Consumers Not to Eat Recalled BrucePac Ready-to-Eat Meat and Poultry Products

Concord, NH – The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS)’ Division of Public Health Services (DPHS) advises consumers to not eat recalled BrucePac ready-to-eat meat and poultry products. The products have been recalled by the company because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. At this time, no illnesses related to this recall have been identified in New Hampshire.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has published a list of recalled products associated with this recall. Recalled products were produced from June 19, 2024, to October 8, 2024, and shipped to establishments, distributors, restaurants, and institutions nationwide, including stores in New Hampshire. The list includes products sold under major brands and at many large retailers and consumers are encouraged to review the list of products if they purchase ready to eat products containing meat and poultry.

The affected BrucePac meat and poultry products used in ready to eat products may still be on store shelves or in consumers’ refrigerators or freezers. Consumers, restaurants, institutions, and other establishments are urged not to eat, serve, or use these products. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, pregnant women, elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Foods that are contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look, smell, or taste any different. In addition to throwing out any items associated with this recall that may be in their refrigerators or freezers, consumers should be aware that:

  • Some of the recalled products could bear a different establishment number on the label due to further distribution and processing by other establishments.
  • The recall is ongoing and additional products may be added to the list of recalled products.

Symptoms of listeriosis include fever, muscle aches, and sometimes nausea and vomiting. If the infection spreads to the nervous system, symptoms can include headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, or convulsions. Listeriosis can be treated with antibiotics, so anyone who suspects they may have the illness should contact their healthcare provider.

Consumers with food safety questions can call the toll-free USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-MPHotline (888-674-6854) or send questions via email to MPHotline@usda.gov.
