Youth Recreation Camp Licensing Program

Youth Recreation Camps are an educational and fun way to get kids active, help them make new friends and discover new skills they can enjoy throughout their lives. There are camps for sports, the arts and even science, too.

The Department of Health and Human Services licenses youth recreation camps. While we don’t evaluate the camp curricula, we do help to ensure a healthy, safe environment so that the focus can be on coaching and mentoring children.

A "youth recreation camp (YRC)" is defined as a program that operates for at least 10 days per license year for the purpose of providing recreational opportunities, or a combination of recreation and instruction, to 10 or more youth per day at a place which is continuously or periodically used for such purposes. The term includes residence camps and seasonal and year-round day camps.
